Modern times

A half-marathon is snaking its way through the streets of Greenwich today. As I write a steady trickle of people is pacing past my house to a soundtrack of hand-claps, whistles and drizzly rain. I popped out to get the papers 5 minutes ago and witnessed one of the runners shouting the words "I'll text you back" at her mobile handset as she hung up her phone mid-run and put it back in her shorts pocket.

NOTICE

Mr Steven Horry, Mr Jim Rhesus and Mr Patrick Barrett have formed a band called The 18 Carat Love Affair. You wouldn't think it'd be so hard to find a keyboard player, but it appears it is, so…do you know someone that can play keys? Indeed, can YOU play keys? Ideally we want someone who would be comfortable with piano playing as well as riffy synth stuff, and if they know how to sequence and program even better, though if not that isn't a massive issue…just someone who can play and is fun would be a start. Anyways, email us via the Myspace page below if you are or you know someone who is interested. All welcome. We are London based with influences including but not limited to Pulp, Bowie, Prince, ABC, Duran Duran, Patrick Wolf, Adam & The Ants, Scott Walker, LCD Soundsystem, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, early Suede, The KLF/Bill Drummond, Sisters of Mercy, The Human League and Tom Moulton 12" mixes. We don’t really sound like any of them though as that'd be kind of pointless. We have lots of exciting things in the pipeline, so get in touch…

Are these people insane?!

Read this:

Then read this:

Check those comments. Amazing. It's quite funny until you realise that most of them are serious. Very us and them.

Thank God It's Christmas

I'd forgotten about this. Davie submitted the J'Adore version of Queen's Thank God It's Christmas to Filthy Little Angels for their Christmas compilation. We close disc 1, following nicely on from the Vichy Government's version of Stop The Calvary:

Well, it made me chuckle.

Do us a favour...

...it's lonely over there - click the button below.

There are some free downloads and so on if that floats your boat.

Some stuff

I did some more writing for Tiny Dancing:

http://www.tinydancing.blogspot.com/

It's the Generic Indie White Boy Sounds article. It's a bit long, but the mp3's are well worth the effort.

Roxy

I wrote some blurb around some old Roxy Music MP3's that has been posted at http://tinydancing.blogspot.com/

The two MP3's are well worth downloading as they're ace. David has sourced some excellent pictures for the piece too. Note the clam trousers.

The Rags & Tags video

Sep. 7th, 2007

His tears are like bombs.

The first review of Rags & Tags has come in. Thankfully, it's an absolute belter. I'm so relieved. I've been sh*tting a brick a little this time around so this is a massive relief. I just hope it continues...

http://sleepingwiththenme.wordpress.com/

"Remember that time I raved about 586? The time has come again. They have a new single out on the 8th of October called ‘Rags and Tags’, and it is simply fantastic. It’s got everything you need to make a perfectly odd piece of brilliance: Oom-pah eastern European beats, a pure pop chorus, musical theater like call and response moments of glee and of course 586’s discoey punky signature sound to keep it very ‘them’. The B-side is the same song, but basically written after smoking crack. And it has a microwave ‘ding’ in it. Nothing more than a warped version of genius."

Trivia fans will be keen to learn that the microwave 'ding' on Out Of Control is actually a bicycle bell. The bicycle bell on Simon 586's very own bicycle, no less.

We have a gig at The George Tavern tonight. Do join us.

Rags & Tags CD's available now!

I took a trip to our plugger's office last night to pick up the CD copies of Rags & Tags. They look so good, I was really excited to finally have them. 1350 of the bastard things are really, really heavy though. Especially on the train. We'll be selling them tonight at the Hoxton Bar & Grill (our first SohoDolls support slot), on Friday at The George and probably next Sunday at the Mad Dogs & Englishmen festival so if you want one, you know where I am.
I'm DJ'ing at Club Mental @ the Lark In The Park on Saturday if anyone is kicking around, by the by.

Artrocker review Witter

"Witter – the name conjures images of Britpop haircuts, sun shades and Shed Seven; of laddish behaviour and 90s-defining uber-tunes. Appropriately, that’s just what they deliver. With members of bands like 586 and Popular Workshop, it makes the onslaught of Britpop covers even more bizarre and hilarious. Sleeper’s ‘Inbetweener’, Menswear’s ‘Daydreamer’ and, inevitably, Pulp’s ‘Common People’ are delivered with gusto. An amusing diversion."

Spreading the gospel

After the struggle I had finding it online for the Witter gig - and we didn't even play it in the end - I decided that Me Me Me's Hanging Around was actually more of obscurity than it should be and set out to rectify this problem. So I contributed to a friend's blog under a pseudonym. Read it here:
